Madness #8

Change is in the air. The morale is high. Eye contact and friendly greetings fill the streets, a new day has dawned with "yes we can". Inside these walls, however, we only have so much time for such trifles. The task at hand is licking its chops, anticipating a feast of flesh and souls of the mad who dwell here. How sweet it is to face the self within a concentric ring of like minded maniacs who strive for glory in a world filled with the mundane. After yet another day of trudging through the collective nightmare that we agree to call reality, we take advantage and step out of the muck and gladly create our own version of what we want the world to be. A place devoid of purposelessness. A tribe of human spirits searching for the spark of humanity. What a smell.

This thing is a monster. It's a gut check of where you think you are and where you actually stand. And I relish it. Last night I scored a 2205 in the strengh section: Clean and Jerk. I didn't make it all the way through the 5 rounds of Turkish Getups and Ball Slams, but I gave it everything I had. So much so, that by the time I hit Endurance it was hard to stand. Luckily, I was partnered with JT. He was there every step of the way. At one point he asked me if I had done my 33rd Flying Burpee. I didn't know. I wasn't even sure he asked it in English. At that point I didn't care what number I was on. Someone else could count for me, I was busy. My last 5 Clap Pushups helped my face develop a relationship with the floor. Pullups? They got done, but not with out help. 15 minutes later I could smile again. This thing is a monster, but it's partly my monster.

Dave you're inspiring. Steve, you're a cruel joker handing a frail little thing like me a 50#kb on the Grinding Explosive.

Strength: 105# c&j 53x for a total of 5,536 points.

Grind & Emplode 3.25rnds before time was called. 50#kb and our good friend Burley, the 20# mb.

Endurance: Rock on Dave.

When I first heard term
evolution in reference to the
madness I thought it was part of
a snazzy sales pitch. After my
second run-through I understand
how literal it's meant to be
taken. I've achieved a new level
of confidence in and outside of
the gym, not to mention my
routine has benefited ten fold
by incorporating the forms I
learned through it all. If your
reading this and you're still on the fence about showing up silence the bitch in your head and join us!

Power set - 75lbs x 42reps = 3150
Strength set - 30lb KB and 20 Medball
Endurance - hurts

I have started to design my diet the day of the workout to help me get through it. You would be amazed at the difference it can make. I find it also helps if you start hydrating that day in preperation. At least a gallon in the 12 hours leading up to the class that day.

I've never really done a proper deadlift before, was always afraid of hurting my lower back but last night with excellent instruction on form from Steve I was able to pump out 275lbs.!
That was an excellent start to the evolution. Round 1 goes to me.
Next up, some crazy form of hold squats that were brutal followed by some jump punches which I pretty much nailed. Round 2 was a tie.
There is a darkness looming...
The endurance part of last night's evolution was completely ludicrous...10 ROUNDS STEVE?!!!

5 frog jumps - ok I pretty much handled that
10 renegade pulls - pretty brutal but I did ok
15 parallel push-ups - what?!

Let me reiterate 10 ROUNDS of this?!!!

Round 7 comes around and Dave and I are dying - Dave from a pinched nerve in his neck presumably from the deadlifts and jump punches and me from just total exhaustion never having ever been pushed this far before...in come thoughts of quitting and I was so close to but Dave said no way and pushed me through it...
Round 9 1/2 comes around and I've now had 2 full rounds of doubts and on top of that I begin to shiver and everything around me is becoming clearer... sensing this Steve quickly comes over and asks me how I feel (mind you, he's been making his rounds to everyone on a consistent basis.) and I tell him and he tells me to stop "your body is going into shock." The general has spoken but I implore him that I can complete the evolution. He accepts and I with his help and Dave's, do. Round 3 is the winner.
It was the furthest I've ever been pushed and it was amazing.
Dave you were an amazing teammate and Steve you are an amazing instructor.
The mind and body are truly remarkable. I think Im getting closer to understanding them now.
Looking forward to next week. Have a great weekend everyone!

P.S. my shoulders are in some serious pain
